Forms of enrolment

There are two forms of enrolment: as a student (full-time or part-time), or as student by contract.

Full-time student
Anyone can, after admission, enrol as a student, but there are various fee levels: the statutory tuition fee (decided upon by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences of the Netherlands) for EU/EEA students or Swiss students who at the start of the academic year are not yet 30 years old, and the tuition fee for institutions of higher education for other students. Full-time students complete the full curriculum within four years.

Part-time student
For students wo already have a bachelor's degree in music the conservatory offers the possibility to take the subjects of Music in Education as a part-time course. After a succesful completion, the student receives the same certificate as a full-time student.

Please note: it is not possible to get a residence permit for part-time study.

Student by contract
Every year the Conservatorium van Amsterdam offers a limited number of candidates te possibility to study by contract. This form of enrolment is only open to candidates who already have finished a musical education or are employed as a musician professionally.
Students by contract take a limited number of subjects. Thus an agreement is made with the conservatory about the subjects to be studied. The tuition fee is determined by the number and the sort of lessons (group or individual). Students by contract receive a certificate which states the subjects taken and the exam results.
