Every year the CvA provides a 60-hour Dutch language course. Its aim is not only to learn the basics, but also to get into contact with other music students as early as possible.
The course starts at the end of August with an intensive programme (20 hours of lessons), and continues with 4 hours per week until November.
The course fee is €285. Students pay for the complete course; restitution is not possible. Books are included in the course fee, but students are expected to buy their own dictionary. A restitution afterwards of €75 is possible, only on a Dutch bank account, dependent on regular participation and good test results. This restitution does not apply generally to students who stay less than a year (e.g. exchange students).
The CvA Student Registrar Office will send students who are admitted information on the language course. Please apply before August 24 by returning the signed application form by regular mail or fax. By doing so the student commits him/herself to pay the course fee: condition for the course to take place is that there are enough participants (therefore it is important that students have a working e-mail address, in order that we can reach them). Please contact the student counsellor or Student Registrar Office if you have not received the information and application form.
N.B. For students who do not speak Dutch: sufficient knowledge of English - at the level of competent user - is absolutely necessary for studying at the CvA, living in The Netherlands and dealing with all practicalities. Therefore a TOEFL or IELTS language certificate is required for admission.
