Registration at the City Registry

If you will stay in the Netherlands for longer than four months, you must register with the City Registry of the city where you will stay. This is also necessary for your enrolment at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, a residence permit and in case you are entitled to receive a study grant.

Students who will live in Amsterdam should go to:

Dienst Persoonsgegevens Amsterdam
Stadhouderskade 85, Amsterdam
Tel. 020 551 9252
Open: Mon-Fri from 8.30 to 16.00 hrs.

Please call in advance to make an appointment.

For registration you have to bring:

  • your passport;
  • a rent contract of your place of residence signed by the main occupant ('hoofdbewoner'), confirming that you live on that address, and a copy of the passport or identity card of the main occupant;
  • an official birth certificate, if you brought it along from your home country (in English, German, French or Dutch, or translated by a sworn interpreter).

After registration you will receive a print of the information in the registry. Also, a burger service nummer ('civil service number') will be proceeded for you. You need this for a Dutch bank account or when you will be employed in the Netherlands.
