The brass section has strong links with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra: Frits Damrow (trumpet), Jacob Slagter (horn), Ivan Meijlemans (trombone), Raymond Munnecom (bass trombone) and Perry Hoogendijk (tuba) are all members of the RCO. With principal players from a variety of prominent Dutch orchestras they form a broadly-based teaching section.
Apart from the regular curriculum, students also take part in jazz groups, as there are many contacts between brass players of the Classical and Jazz Departments. Other specific possibilities are offered in conjunction with the Early Music Department (Baroque trumpet and natural horn).
Orchestral projects provide students with orchestral experience, while regular brass ensembles and a weekly brass orchestra class are led by Frits Damrow. Brass students also play in the large brass ensemble CvA-Brass. The CvA organises masterclasses with principal players from the famous orchestras performing in Amsterdam.
