
I Principal study
Question 3: please, do not forget to state the name of your preferred teacher.
Question 5: optionals: you have the possibility to apply for instrumental or vocal introductions to other styles, genres, traditions, etcetera. You can give a maximum of 3 preferences, please state a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice.
II Research
During the two years of your master's degree programme you will carry out a small-scale individual research project on a topic of your own choice. You will present the results of this project at a research symposium to be held in your second year of study (April). Possible topics include: repertoire, performance issues, aesthetical issues, vocal and instrumental techniques, teaching methods. Please suggest one or more topics on this form and explain each of them briefly. If you want to extend the share of research in your programme beyond the required minimum of 15 credits, please indicate.
You will be coached by conservatory staff and if necessary by outside experts. The Research Guide for Master Students, gives you information on how to set up a research proposal, how to organize and carry out research and how to find and use sources. You will receive instruction during regular meetings, which also provide occasion for questions and discussion.
Further information may be obtained from the master electives and research coordinator.
III Electives
The programme includes compulsory enrolment in at least two electives during your two years of study. A list of electives will be published
here in spring. Please regard the distinction between category A and B subjects.
Different rules apply to those taking part in the Master of Arts programme and Opera programme.
NB: subjects open to both classical and jazz students are indicated as follows: classical/jazz and jazz/classical respectively or C/J and J/C
IV Individual credits
The student is offered the possibility to make personal choices within the study programme. Individual credits can be earned in various ways but the activities should contribute meaningfully to this programme. Please, make one or more proposals and give your motivation.
The free electives encompass a study load of 10 credits; 280 hours of study.
Examples of individual activities:
* external master classes
* summer courses
* an extra elective (see III)
* extra (theory) subjects from the conservatory programme, the AHK programme, the University of Amsterdam or another institute for higher education
* participation in (inter)national competitions
* AHK Practicum Generale project
* (semi-)professional activities in the working field, such as participating in orchestral projects, organizing concerts, educational projects, etc.
* internships
* teaching practice, privately or in music schools/centers for art-education
* another proposal, to be presented beforehand to the study advisor
After conclusion of the individual credits activities you have to present a report which includes:
1. evidence of your participation in these activities
2. a description and evaluation of these activities
3. an estimation of the time invested in them
4. a statement of approval from your principal subject teacher
