Every year the Conservatorium van Amsterdam offers a limited number of candidates te possibility to study by contract. This form of enrolment is only open to candidates who already have finished a musical education or are employed as a musician professionally.

Students by contract take a limited number of subjects. Thus an agreement is made with the conservatory about the subjects to be studied. The tuition fee is determined by the number and the sort of lessons (group or individual). Students by contract receive a certificate which states the subjects taken and the exam results.

N.B.: it is not possible to get a residence permit for study by contract.

Private Lessons

Entrance examination
Admission will be governed by the procedures in force (see also admission and enrollment): the department of the relevant principal subject will administer the entrance examination and will advise as to the number of places available. The student will be accepted only if one of the principal subject or other teachers' teaching schedules can accommodate him/her.

Entrance auditions are held in May or possibly in June.

Calculating course fees
Weekly one-hour principal private lessons cost around EUR 3,500 for the entire academic year (approximately 38 weeks), which, divided and rounded off, comes to EUR 90 per weekly hour of instruction.

Group Lessons

Entrance examination
Admission will be governed by the procedures in force (see also admission and enrollment): the Theory Department will administer the entrance examination and will advise as to the number of places available. Entrance auditions are held in May or possibly in June.

Calculating course fees
Weekly group lessons cost around EUR 3,500 for the entire academic year divided by the average group size and multiplied by the number of hours of instruction. The minimum amount is EUR 750 per year.

Example 1: you wish to take 'Harmony at the Piano'. The average group size is 4; one hour of instruction is given per week; therefore, the cost of the course per academic year is EUR 875 (3,500 : 4 x 1 = 875).

Example 2: you wish to take one of the general theoretical subjects. The average group size is 7; three hours of instruction are given per week; therefore, the cost of the course per academic year is EUR 1,500 (3,500 : 7 x 3 = 1,500).

Depending on the number of subjects for which the student registers, a discount may apply.
