Sweelinck Academy

The Sweelinck Academy is intended for classical musicians who at a very early age already show exceptional talent and who need high level support. Special arrangements have been made, concerning the general musical development as well as the instrumental development. The Sweelinck Academy offers, besides instrumental, vocal and composing lessons, special theoretical training in which, in addition to the customary musical training, there will be room for non-Western music, social history, choral singing and ensemble playing. Age limit is 16 years. After that students can be admitted to the preliminary or the professional training.

Preparatory course at the Gerrit van der Veenschool
It is possible to combine the preliminary training or the lessons at the Sweelinck Academy with secondary education at the Gerrit van der Veenschool, which is situated in the south of Amsterdam. The music lessons are partially fitted into the time-table. Because of the amount of time the instrument already takes up at this stage, the pupil can, by means of a national arrangement, be exempted from a number of subjects.
